PARIS: Identifying luxury brands as the major thrust area between India and France, industry chamber FICCI on Friday signed an agreement with the umbrella organisation of leading French labels - Comite Colbert.

Coming close on the heels of opening up of single brand retail in India, the MoU provides for setting up a working group of Chief Executive Officers which will ensure greater exchange on brand development between both countries.

Giving details, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry President Saroj Poddar told the media that the MoU will pave the way for both the industry bodies to set up a permanent dialogue for exchanges on craftsmanship and knowhow.

FICCI and Comite Colbert, which represents 40 top luxury French brands, would also facilitate development of design activity and creativity.

Poddar said FICCI had already set up a cell and hired a design expert from the National Institute of Fashion Technology to give this a push.

This group will look at removal of tariff and non-tariff barriers in both countries for luxury brands to facilitate their growth, he said adding that this would give a boost to the move by some of the French brands to set up shops in India.
