Cooptex to bring out 2,000 sarees during Diwali

Cooptex would bring out 2,000 varieties of sarees coinciding with Diwali festival this year, Tamil Nadu Handlooms Handlooms Minister NKKP Raja has said.

MADURAI: Cooptex would bring out 2,000 varieties of sarees coinciding with Diwali festival this year, Tamil Nadu Handlooms Handlooms Minister NKKP Raja has said.

The government-owned textile cooperative society was fully geared up to face the tough competition in the textile market and was introducing the new designs, he said inaugurating a Cooptex showroom and design centre here last night.

"We are introducing 5,000 varieties of handloom textiles which included shirts, sarees. Two-thousand new varieties of silk saris are being introduced this year," he said.

The firm was offering 30 per cent rebate on handloom and silk textiles, he added.

The Cooptex's Navarathna Sarees, with rainbow colours, was already a big hit, he said.

'Azhagu Mayil Sarees', made from pure Silk and Artificial Jari was also popular among women, he added.

Scented 'Aroma Shirts', which was coming with lavender, strawberry and rose perfumes, was becoming popular, he said.

The Minister also handed over a specially designed saree for Goddess Sri Meenakshi Amman to the temple executives.
