Coir exports take a beating in Aug
Exports of coir and coir products from India during August ’06 showed a decrease, both in quantity by 1,029 tonnes, and value amounting to Rs 221.40 lakh, compared to the same period last year.
KOCHI: Exports of coir and coir products from India during August ’06 showed a decrease, both in quantity by 1,029 tonnes, and value amounting to Rs 221.40 lakh, compared to the same period last year.
In August, an estimated 12,119 tonnes of coir products valued at Rs 4,687.18 lakh were exported against 13,148 tonnes valued at Rs 4,908.58 lakh in August ’05, according to provisional figures released by the Coir Board.
Among the items of export, coir geo-textiles, rubberised coir and coir fibre recorded an increase, both in terms of quantity and value. All the other items showed a decrease during August this year.
Coir geo-textiles recorded a 22% increase in terms of quantity and 7% in value. Rubberised coir has increased by 33% in quantity and 32% in value. In the case of coir fibre, the increase was 71% in quantity and 49% in value, compared to the corresponding period during the previous year.
