Century Enka plans Rs 260 cr expansion

Century Enka Limited of the B K Birla group has lined up a Rs 100 crore expansion at its Bharuch plant in Gujarat to augment production of polyester partially oriented yarn (POY).


KOLKATA: Century Enka Limited of the B K Birla group has lined up a Rs 100 crore expansion at its Bharuch plant in Gujarat to augment production of polyester partially oriented yarn (POY).

Capacity of polyester POY would be increased from 37,900 tonne to 81,000 tonne per annum, Manager of the company G M Singhvi told reporters on the sidelines of annual general meeting here on Wednesday.

In addition, the company was also adding new capacity of nylon tyre cord fabric (NTCF) of 8,000 tonne per annum at a total investment of Rs 160 crore.

Singhvi said that commissioning of the plant was expected to be in the last quarter of 2006.

Cheap imports of NTCF from China were affecting the bottom line of the company since the last two years, he said.

In the nylon filament yarn (NFY) segment, the company has a market share of 23 per cent.
