“The scheme is likely to be taken up by the Cabinet on Wednesday,” said an official.
The scheme aims to create world class global champion companies in these segments.
Airbags, sutures, sanitary napkins and bandages could be among the products in technical textiles to get a manufacturing boost under the PLI scheme for textiles along with another 40 items of man-made fibre (MMF) such as track suits, coats and babies’ garments.
India's export of MMF garments constitutes only 10% of its total apparel exports, which was about $16 billion in 2019-20.
The scheme is significant as India produces 80% cotton and 20% MMF products whereas the trend globally the opposite.
