Arvind Ltd to stretch denim portfolio
India’s largest denim manufacturer with 110 million metres of production Arvind Ltd would offer more of stretch denims by the year-end.
Arvind introduced stretch in its portfolio a decade ago. 35% of global’s denim is stretch. Working with Lycra maker Invista, the company has developed comfortable, durable and stretchable fabrics. “With plans to increase the stretch denim portfolio, we would have to increase out sourcing of filament yarn from Invista. Our requirement would increase from current 12 tonnes per month to more than 20 tonnes per month,” Mukherjee said.
Together with Invista, Arvind has developed extremely difficult stretches with Lycra fiber like stretch selvedge denim, stretch jacquard denim, super soft high recovery excel stretch denim, et al.
“Further, we have ensured that bagging on knees and back are avoided, while maintaining good stretch through innovation,” added Avinash Chandra, Invista’s marketing head ( South Asia), while showcasing the latest range of innovations in denim at Ahmedabad recently. Invista works with the textile value chain from yarn to garment makers to introduce consumer-centric innovatations.
Wardrobe research of consumers have revealed that consumers bid adieu to their non-stretch garments the moment they get used to stretch, he said.
