AITUC demands modernisation of AFT mill

AITUC on Tuesday called upon the territorial government to initiate immediate steps to modernise the state-owned Anglo French Textile mill here.

PUDUCHERRY: AITUC on Tuesday called upon the territorial government to initiate immediate steps to modernise the state-owned Anglo French Textile mill here.

The general council meeting of AITUC held here under the chairmanship of its general secretary V S Abishegam, in its resolution said that a high-level committee constituted in 1994 had submitted a detailed report for modernising the century-old mill.

But, no action was taken, the resolution said. All the workers of the mill should be paid dearness allowance on par with what was available for the central government staff.

The management should take effective steps to tone up the production capacity of the mill so that the products and garments could be marketed on a larger scale within the country an abroad.
