The increase comes ahead of the festive season and is being attributed to rising operating costs faced by dairy farmers and tabela (cattle shed) operators across the region.
The cost of cattle feed, including green fodder, chuni (grain husks) and oil cakes, has increased over the past year. Dairy operators are also facing higher transportation and livestock maintenance costs.
The wholesale price revision is expected to affect retail milk prices as local vendors, neighbourhood dairies and doorstep tabela suppliers adjust their rates from September 1.

The increase could also raise input costs for businesses that use milk in large quantities, including bakeries, sweet shops and eateries. Higher milk procurement costs could have a knock-on effect on products such as curd, paneer and festive sweets.
The new wholesale rate will remain applicable for six months, with the BMPA's revised ₹102 per litre price scheduled to continue through February 28, 2027.
Meanwhile, sugar prices have also been rising, with the all-India average retail price reaching ₹65.05 per kg on August 26, up from ₹63.97 a day earlier, according to government data.
The average retail sugar price is now 34% higher than a month ago and 41% above its year-ago level, even as ex-mill prices have declined following government measures to boost supplies and curb speculation and hoarding.
