The association -- which represents around 1,700 veterinary experts, including doctors -- said the myths about chicken and egg consumption are related to concerns about the use of hormones and antibiotics; misconception about bird flu; egg safety; nutrition; and environmental impact.
"The poultry sector is not just an industry, it is a critical component of nutritional security. Chicken and eggs are among the most affordable and accessible sources of high quality protein. Misinformation, therefore, does not just harm producers but it directly affects national nutritional goals," Vets in Poultry President Ajay Deshpande said at a briefing in the national capital.
In recent times, there have been posts on social media claiming that broiler egg and chicken consumption will have adverse health impacts.
According to the government data, India's total egg production stood at 149.11 billion nos during 2024-25. The per capita availability of eggs increased from 62 nos / annum in 2014-15 to 106 nos/annum in 2024-25.
The meat production from poultry is 5.18 million tonnes, contributing about half of total meat production.
The association's treasurer Jeevan Sonawane noted that modern broiler growth comes from genetics, feed, health and management. He mentioned that steroid hormone implants are not approved for growth purposes in poultry globally.
There is a need to curb the spreading of misinformation, he added.
