Vadilal to open first Italian ice-cream outlet -artisanal gelato

AHMEDABAD: Vadilal Industries today said it will open its first cafe here offering Italian ice cream -artisanal gelato-under the brand melt in, on Womens day.

The company plans to open 10 such outlets-also offering snacks and other items-in metros over the next two years.

The venture, of second generation enterpreneur in the family, Aastha Gandhi, has an in-house gelato lab at melt in with equipment imported from Italy.

"melt in will be a first of its kind outlet in India to offer fresh and lab made gelato in 12 different flavors," Managing Director Vadilal Devanshu Gandhi said.

"We plant to open such outlets in cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, and Bangalore,over the next two years," he said.

The company has roped in a French chef for its new venture.

Gandhi, has opened the first outlet after completing an advance gelato training programme at Carpigiani Gelato University of Italy.

"The Gelato range contains less fat, and have been developed for Indian flavours," Gandhi said.
