Uttarakhand to purchase 20 lakh qtl sugarcane from UP

MUZAFFARNAGAR: Uttarakhand would purchase 20 lakh quintals of sugarcane from neighbouring Uttar Pradesh for crushing, an official source said on Thursday

According to an official of the UP Sugarcane Development Department, the two states have agreed that farmers of five districts Moradabad, Rampur, Pilibhit, Bijnore and Saharanpur would together supply 20 lakh quintals of the cane to sugarmills in Uttarakhand.

The support price of sugarcane in Uttarakhand is Rs 130 per quintal, Rs two more than that in Uttar Pradesh.
