UK's Weetabix launches operations in India

NEW DELHI: British food company Weetabix has launched its wholegrain breakfast products in the country, eyeing the 20-million-dollar Indian market.
The company, which is talking to major retailers in India for marketing tie-ups, also plans to make the country its export hub to other Asian countries.
"Initially, we will import from the UK, but as and when we grow in volumes here, we do have plans to make India our hub for exports in Asia," Weetabix Ltd International Communications manager Andy Harris said. However, such a plan could materialise after three-four years, she said.
Weetabix, which launched its products on Monday, is targeting a 10 per cent market share over the next two years.
"We shall be having presence in 35 cities to begin with and shall tie-up with 4,000 stores to market our products. As of now, we have no plans to set up standalone stores of Weetabix," said Beth Langley, International Market Manager (Asia Pacific).
Weetabix's turnover from its worldwide operations is 780 million dollars. The company has five manufacturing units in the United Kingdom besides in North America and Africa.
