Terming the work done for tea estate workers by their companies as not enough, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi called upon the corporates in the sector to look after the welfare of their workforce.

"Some companies are not doing enough for their employees. The companies are making profits from the gardens and they should look after the welfare of the garden employees," Gogoi told a function organised to distribute appointment letters to school teachers in tea garden areas.

"Employment can be generated if the companies make use of their excess land to diversify into other business ventures," he said.

The chief minister also urged the tea companies to go for mechanisation to raise productivity and enhance quality.
