Tea board of India chairman rules out shifting of headquarter
Tea board of India chairman MGVK Bhanu has ruled out shifting of tea board headquarter from Kolkata to Assam.
Bhanu who was in Guwahati on Friday to participate in a interaction meet organised by Federation of Industries for Northeast Region (FINER) said that as tea manufactures and traders are located in Kolkata it is not possible to shift Board's office.
Shifting of Tea board office has been a demand in Assam. Chairman said it is decided that chairman will have an office in Regional office of board in Jorhat where chairman will visit once in a month.
Recently the board has shifted its regional office from Guwahati to Jorhat. The board has reasoned that it is important to have office in the production centre.
Assam roughly produces 53 percent of India's tea.
