Tata Tea to revise prices, expand portfolio

Tata Tea on Wednesday said it would revise the price of its packet tea across all brands, except Agni.

KOLKATA: Tata Tea on Wednesday said it would revise the price of its packet tea across all brands, except Agni, by Rs 4 and Rs 6 per kg. This is the second price hike in the current calendar year. The price was revised earlier in January.

“We are following our competitors, who have already revised the price,” Tata Tea executive director Sangeeta Talwar said. Speaking about strengthening its brand portfolio in the market, Ms Talwar said the company has plans for more brands in the near future. She, however, did not divulge any further details.

The company has three national brands and three local brands under Tata Tea. Gold, Premium and Agni are national brands while Gemini, Chakra Gold and Kanan Devan are local brands.

“We are evaluating the launch of tea concentrate in the Indian market, but it will take some time because we do not have the technology for it in India,” she added.

Tata Tea has liquid tea concentrate brand, Chaya in the UK, Australia and Canada. The brand would be introduced in more countries in due course, Ms Talwar said. A liquid tea concentrate plant is being set up in the US.
