The sale, consumption and possession of alcohol and meat has been banned by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in Katra for two months in view of approaching festival season.

JAMMU: The sale, consumption and possession of alcohol and meat has been banned by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in Katra for two months in view of approaching festival season.

The ban has been imposed by the Additional Chief Executive Officer of the shrine board, Puneet Kumar by virtue of powers conferred to him under Section 144 Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in Katra holy town for two month period, Board officials said.

The ban would remain enforced on both sides of the trek from holy cave to Katra and up to a distance of one kilometer, Katra town, Arli village, Mutial upto railway station and village Partal and Danna, Tikri road including villages Chamba, Serli and Bhagta, Jammu road including villages Kundororain, Nomain and upto Magaal and Reasi road including villages Parthal, Serward upto Aghar Jitt
