Quantum leap in Kerala's revenue through sales tax on gold

Kerala has earned a revenue of Rs 97.90 through sales tax on gold in 2006-07 fiscal against Rs 21.21 crore collected in the previous year

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala has earned a revenue of Rs 97.90 through sales tax on gold in 2006-07 fiscal against Rs 21.21 crore collected in the previous year, state Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac said.

The total collection of Value Added Tax on various goods in 2006-07 stood at Rs 4,492.11 crore as compared to Rs 2,946.11 crore the previous year, Isaac said in a written reply to the state Assembly today.

The government would be able to enhance its contribution to social welfare scheme on account of the increase in tax revenue, he added.
