Guwahati: Northeast India’s largest dairy cooperative, Purabi Dairy, has entered the traditional Indian sweets market.

Purabi Mithai is produced by the West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL) and marketed by Northeast Dairy and Foods Limited (NEDFL), a joint venture of the Government of Assam and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).

National Milk Day is observed every year on the birth anniversary of Dr Verghese Kurien, known as the ‘Father of the White Revolution in India’, to mark the progress of the country’s dairy sector.

Satya Brata Bose, Managing Director, NEDFL, said, “This is a momentous occasion for Team Purabi as we expand our product portfolio into traditional sweets. Consumers have long trusted Purabi for quality dairy products, and Purabi Mithai is a natural extension of that trust. We are committed to offering fresh, authentic and hygienically prepared sweets for every household.”

Sameer Kumar Parida, Managing Director, WAMUL, said, “Every new product we launch creates more value for our farmers. With Purabi Mithai, we aim to channel higher milk procurement and ensure better returns for our producer members. This initiative is another step towards strengthening Assam’s dairy ecosystem as envisioned by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.”

During the state-level National Milk Day celebrations, the Assam government also felicitated five dairy farmers for their outstanding contributions and progressive practices, all of whom are associated with Purabi Dairy.
