Pakistan bans export of onions through land route

However, there is no such ban on export through the rail route. Pakistani onion exporters closed markets to protest the indirect ban.

AMRITSAR: The onion-spurred price rise in Pakistan has resulted in Pakistan government slowing down exports to India. According to reports, the Pakistan government, through a notification, has banned export of onions to India through Wagah-Attari road route.

However, there is no such ban on export through the rail route. Pakistani onion exporters closed markets to protest the indirect ban. As many as 150 truck loads of the vegetable could not be sent to India despite being cleared by the Pakistani customs.

Sources said the goods train at Wagah is controlled by a powerful lobby of cement exporters, who would not let the small-time exporters book even a single wagon for exporting onions.
