Milkfed forges alliance with big dairy farmers in Punjab
Big dairy farmers of Punjab have agreed to supply their entire milk produce to the state-owned Milkfed to help it improve its capacity utilisation and remain viable.
Almost 250 dairy farmers under the banner of Progressive Dairy Farmers' Association have started supplying 50,000- 60,000 liters of milk per day to Milkfed.
"We have stopped our supply of milk to big corporates in the state after deciding to give our milk to Milkfed, so that it can utilise its entire capacity and remain viable," Progressive Dairy Farmers' Association President Daljeet Singh told media.
"So far big dairy farmers, a farmer who has milk production capacity of over 100 liters to 2,000 liters per day, from Ferozepur, Jalandhar and Ludhiana have started supplying their milk to Milkfed," he said, adding "soon other progressive dairy farmers from across the state will start supplying their milk to it.
Milkfed, expects the milk procurement from the dairy farmers alone in the state to touch 2.5-3 lakh liters per day in one year alone.
"The procurement from big dairy farmers will certainly improve the capacity utilisation of our existing milk processing plant in the state considerably and lead to better price realisation of our products," Milkfed Additional Managing Director S C Aggarwal said here.
