Milk producers to launch indefinite agitation

Milk producers would launch an indefinite 'cut milk supply to Mumbai' agitation from June 26 if Maharashtra government fails to increase milk procurement rates, according to Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana MLA Raju Shetty.

MUMBAI: Milk producers would launch an indefinite 'cut milk supply to Mumbai' agitation from June 26 if Maharashtra government fails to increase milk procurement rates, according to Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana MLA Raju Shetty.
"Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has said that the government would consider raising the prices by June 26, but if the promise is not kept, milk producers would stop milk supply to Mumbai," Shetty told reporters here on Wednesday.
Milk producers from western Maharashtra and Belgaum in Karnataka, on May 26 and 27, stopped nearly 20 lakh litre of milk from coming to Mumbai to highlight "our seriousness on the issue", he said.
"The milk Mumbai people got during the two days was adulterated," he added.
"The milk federations buy our milk for around Rs 12 per litre and sell it at more than double the amount. What is their value-addition," he said.
