Following inspections on the facilities across Vile Parle West, Borivali West and R-City Mall, Ghatkopar, Mumbai, and Malakapour, Karad, Satara, the officials reported deficiencies including inadequate hygiene and sanitation, pest-control issues, improper food storage and temperature monitoring, lack of segregation between raw and ready-to-eat foods, and incomplete food-safety records.
The action was taken under the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011.
The latest crackdown comes soon after Maharashtra FDA suspended the food licence of a Blink Commerce facility in Mumbai over extensive "cockroach infestation" and improper item storage, while an outlet of Reliance Retail was under the lens after live larvae were allegedly found in a popular sweet variety.
The food authority has tightened the survelience and launched statewide crackdown on food outlets.
Eatlier on Wednesday, officials inspected 434 licensed Ayurvedic drug manufacturing establishments across Maharashtra as part of a statewide inspection drive to assess compliance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945, and Schedule T, which lays down Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements for Ayurvedic, Siddha and Unani medicines.
They found serious violations of prescribed manufacturing and quality-control standards at several establishments across the state.
Maharashtra FDA issued show-cause notices to 135 manufacturers for various violations and instances of non-compliance and directed the establishments to explain the violations detected during inspections and comply with the prescribed requirements.
