Maggi samples from Kerala, UP, Delhi show lead content, more test results awaited

NEW DELHI: The head of India's food regulator said Maggi noodle samples tested by Kerala, UP and Delhi revealed lead content and that he was waiting for reports from other state governments that are expected in another two-three days. "We have got reports from six states, out of which we have asked Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Goa to reappraise their test reports," said Yudhvir Singh Malik, CEO of the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI). "In the next few days, we should be able to get all the reports, and come to a conclusion."

Malik held a meeting with senior officials from across the country on Thursday. "We have advised states to also test other instant noodles brands. We are not targeting or after one company," he said. "It's a normal procedure to test. We can insist manufacturers to do more tests, but problem is that companies will complain about the ease of doing business."

Malik was yet to see the report of the Gujarat government but had come to know of high level of lead being found in samples.
