Kishore Biyani to build food park in West Bengal

Kishore Biyani group is going to build a food processing park in West Bengal with an investment Rs 600 crore, the state industry and commerce minister Amit Mitra said.

KOLKATA: The Kishore Biyani group is going to build a food processing park in West Bengal with an investment Rs 600 crore, the state industry and commerce minister Amit Mitra said on Saturday.

The unit will be built at Vidyasagar Industrial Park in Kharagpur. The state has alotted 60 acre for this.

The group which owns Big Bazaar retail chain will put in Rs 150 crore itself and would mobilise the balance Rs 450 crore from other investors, Mitra told the media at an event organised by Indian Chamber of Commerce on Saturday.

Mitra said that the group will build collection points across the state to collect farm produce for its proposed unit.

The group has built its first food park in Karnataka as it has started diversifying in the area of processing and manufacturing.

The project is Bengal is likely to benefit nearly 1.35 lakh farmers and provide employment to about 15,000 people.
