The Kerala HC order revoking the ban on production and sale of colas in the state evoked mixed response in the state with business community generally welcoming the order and political circles expressing their disappointment over it.

A statement issued by Coca-Cola said that it is ‘gratified’ that the court has set aside the ‘illegal’ orders of the Kerala government and State Food (Health) Authority.

The order protects the interests of big and small retailers, local entrepreneurs and employees who have been affected by the ban, the statement said.

Coca-Cola made it clear that in the interest of the consumers, it will immediately take necessary steps to make Coca-Cola available throughout the state. Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry has whole-heartedly welcomed the court decision to quash the government ban order.

“The government which is wooing the investors to our state should have taken a mature decision in this regard,” chamber president John K Paul said.

State CM VS Achuthanandan, however, expressed disappointment on the High Court verdict. The industries minister Elamaram Kareem said the government will study the verdict and will decide the next course of action.
