The submission was made by the government in a counter- affidavit to petitions filed by the soft drink majors to challenge the ban on manufacture and sale of their products.

KOCHI: Justifying its ban on the manufacture and sale of Coca-Cola and Pepsi, the Kerala government on Monday informed the High Court it had a constitutional obligation to ensure that "adulterated food" injurious to health is not sold in the state.
The submission was made by the government in a counter- affidavit to petitions filed by the soft drink majors to challenge the ban on manufacture and sale of their products.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice V K Bali and Justice M Ramachandran resumed hearing the petitions today after the court vacation. The hearing will continue tomorrow.
The government also produced the public analyst's report of August 16 regarding the tests conducted on samples of Coke and Pepsi.
According to the report, the samples contained insecticides and were adulterated. It said the samples of Coca Cola contained chlorobyrifor while those of Pepsi contained carbaryl.
