Jay Shree Tea ties up with retail biggies

The company says it was in talks with retail majors to sell branded packaged tea through their outlets.

KOLKATA: Jay Shree Tea and Industries Ltd (JTIL) of BK Birla group on Thursday said it was in talks with retail majors to sell branded packaged tea through their outlets.

"We are talking to a few retail majors to sell our branded tea through their outlets. We have already tied up with Reliance Fresh," Jay Shree President R K Ganeriwala said after the Annual General Meeting on Thursday.

The company has installed the latest hygenic blending and packaging systems and will invest at least Rs 5-6 crore in modernising the existing packaging system, he said.

Shareholders passed resolutions for amalgamation of subsidiaries Birla Tea, Darjeeling Consolidated and Marionbari Tea.

With consolidation of these subsidiaries, the company would produce more 12 lakh kg of tea including 6 lakh kg of high quality Darjeeling tea.

"Our turnover will grew by Rs 20 crore in the topline of Jay Shree Tea. We expect our turnover during the current fiscal at Rs 275 crore as against Rs 239.59 crore achieved in 2006-07," Ganeriwala said.
