Haryana, with 660 grams of availibility of milk per capita per day ranks at number two in the country as against the national average of 232 grams.

CHANDIGARH: Haryana, with 660 grams of availibility of milk per capita per day ranks at number two in the country as against the national average of 232 grams.
Haryana Animal Husbandry Minister H S Chatha said today that 2605 veterinary institutions were functioning in the state and on an average every three villages had a veterinary institute to look after the livestock.
He said that the Planning Department has sanctioned Rs 22 crore for implementation of various schemes of Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department during the current financial year. A sum of Rs 14.83 crore was earmarked during the last financial year.
Chatha said that a target has been fixed to produce 54.74 lakh metric tonnes of milk 17.64 crore eggs and 13.44 lakh kg wool during the current financial year.
He said that Rs one crore has been earmarked to improve the quality of Murrah germ plasm. Under this programme, a pool of genes would be prepared with the help of selected buffaloes.
The Central Government had been considering a Rs 554 crore Integrated Murrah Development Programme to implement it at the national level.
