Godrej close to acquiring S African co
The Godrej Group is close to acquiring a leading South African consumer firm, company Chairman, Adi B Godrej said here on Friday.
"I cannot tell you more details as we are in the process of negotiations," Godrej told reporters here while on a tour of China along with top executives of the company.
Godrej currently operates from 10 countries; Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, UAE, Oman, Mauritius, UK and USA. The company is keen to add China and South African to the list, he said, hoping to sizeably increase the revenue of the company from the present 15 per cent from foreign operations.
Godrej also said that this was the first time for 16 top company executives to travel enmasse to one foreign destination. "We also have a rule that not more than four executives of the company should be there in one single flight," he said.
However, flight delays in the eastern Chinese metropolis, Shanghai forced more than eight top executives of the company into one flight, which posed a problem for the Godrej top executive - whether to offload some of them.
"Finally, I decided to go ahead," he said, smiling, knowing that he had broken the rule. He said that some of the executives reached their hotels at 2 am due to inordinate flight delays at Shanghai.
