BANGALORE: Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation(GCMMF)is all set to launch its sugar-free range of products-ice cream and desserts.

"The market for sugar-freee products is huge. With growing awareness about health issues, we are aiming to having a signficant share of this business also," a senior GCMMF official told ET.

The sugare-free range would have probiotic agents-a live beneficial culture which besides helping in easy digestion also builds the immune system. Sugar which is conventionally used for sweetening dishes is being replaced with agents like fructo-oligo saccharide and sucralose.

The ice cream is called Amul ProLife Probiotic Wellness Ice Cream while the dessert is Amul Sugarfree Probiotic Frozen Dessert. The dessert has 50% less fat than normal ice cream.

Fructo-oligo saccharides are soluble dietary fibres that improves mineral ab-sorption and bone health. As these are sparingly digested by enzymes in the body

GCMMF's flagship brand-Amul is currently the leader in the domestic ice cream market with a 37% share. While there are no statistics available about the size of the sugar-free ice cream and dessert market in the country, the do-mestic market for ice-creams is estimated to be around Rs 700 crore.
