Dumdin tea estate suspends operation

Tata Tea-owned Dumdin Tea Estate in Dooars region of North Bengal suspends operation on Tuesday.

JALPAIGURI: Tata Tea-owned Dumdin Tea Estate in Dooars region of North Bengal suspended operation on Tuesday, according to Indian Tea Planters Association Secretary (Dooars region) P K Bhattacharjee.

Bhattacharjee told reporters that labour trouble had forced the tea estate management to suspend operation at the 130-year old tea garden.

With the closure tea garden, nearly 2,500 workers in the estate has became jobless, district administration sources said.

Fourteen tea gardens already remained closed in the region, sources said.
