New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has restrained Patanjali Ayurved, the parent company of Patanjali Foods, from airing an advertisement that termed the chyawanprash products of other companies as deceptive, until the next hearing on February 26.

Justice Tejas Karia ordered Patanjali to take down the advertisement from all electronic media, including national TV channels, OTT platforms or any streaming systems, and from all digital and print media within three days. The judge was hearing a plea by Dabur India, which alleged that Patanjali's advertisement aired last month had disparaged its chyawanprash product.

The court said the advertisement disparaged the entire chyawanprash category. Though it did not directly target Dabur, as the segment leader, the ad featuring Baba Ramdev would adversely affect it.

"In evaluating the overall impact of the impugned advertisement, it is necessary to consider factors such as the stature and influence of the endorser. Consequently, both in its tone and intent, the impugned advertisement seeks to disparage the entire category of chyawanprash products," the order stated, noting that a prima facie case was made out for the injunction.
