Pune: Leading dairy firms Amul and Mother Dairy have reported robust milk sales for December and the current month so far. While Amul said it saw record milk sales during this period, Mother Dairy said its milk sales in the household category grew to the pre-Covid levels.

Sale of consumer packs of ghee and butter went up 20%, while demand is likely to grow 8-10% in the next six months, said the two firms.

“Even though the demand for milk and milk products is 40% below normal in the institutional category – comprising hotel, restaurant and canteen segments – increased household consumption has led to a year-on-year increase of 9% in sale of liquid milk in January and 8% in December, with total sale of liquid milk setting a record for the corresponding months,” said RS Sodhi, managing director, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Amul).
