Committee to fix milk price: J&K Govt

SRINAGAR: With the milk companies increasing prices by over 40 per cent during the last six months, Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to constitute a committee to fix the rate of pasteurised milk.

Orders to this effect were passed by state Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Taj Mohiuddin yesterday, following reports in the local media that government was a mute spectator to milk companies increasing prices.

The minister also took strong notice of the lapse on part of the officials of the CAPD Department as the notification for fixing the prices of milk had lapsed and they had failed to carry out a fresh survey.

After examination it was found that the notification fixing the price has since lapsed and no new survey has been conducted. The minister strongly reprimanded the erring officers and has ordered an enquiry to be conducted by the additional secretary CAPD, an official spokesman said.

The minister said he had not fixed the rates of processed milk as was reported as it is the prerogative of the officials concerned, who do it after proper verification and deliberations.
