Cargill wants to expand business in Maharashtra: David MacLennan

Cargill India plans a big expansion of its soyabean oil business and maize business in Maharashtra.

PUNE: Cargill India plans a big expansion of its soyabean oil business and maize business in Maharashtra. Davi MacLennan, President and chief executive officer, Cargill Inc sought the necessary co-operation from government of Maharashtra in a meeting at Davos, Switzerland.

Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, who is at Davos attending the World Economic Forum, met MacLennan. Maharashtra is the second biggest soyabean producer in India after top producer Madhya Pradesh. The area under soyabean in the state has been rising. Cargill India has its processing plant at Kurkumbh near Pune.

A release of the state government stated: "Cargill wants to expand its soyabean oil business as well as the maize business in India. MacLennan announced that he will come to Maharashtra next month to discuss the expansion projects."
