The proposed plant will produce curd in Howrah’s Sankrail area. "We have received 15 acres. The project will have Rs 700 crore investment," Jayen Mehta, managing director, Amul told ET.
The factory at the the Sankrail Food Park will be built with the capacity to produce a 10 lakh kilograms of dahi, mishti doi, yogurt, lassi and buttermilk every single day and will be processing up to 15 lakh litres of milk every day, people in the know said.

On June 6, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, after holding a meeting with Jayen Mehta, had posted in his X account: “Managing Director of Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) Shri Jayen Mehta and Kairana District Co-operative Milk Producers Union and Amul Dairy chief Amit Vyas today gave a courtesy call. Participated in the meeting today. In future, investment and business expansion of a renowned organization like Amul in West Bengal will play a significant role in economic development of the state, increase in employment and development of the dairy industry.”
“The meeting stressed on the expansion of the organization, investment potential and development of the dairy sector in West Bengal. Detailed discussion took place. The discussion was very fruitful and there will be mutual cooperation between West Bengal and East in the future,” CM posted.

To be sure, the announcement of proposed investment was made at the Bengal Global Business Summit 2025 in Kolkata where Mehta from Amul was present.
