100 food quality testing labs to come up: Sahai

NEW DELHI: Assuring the food processing industry of adequate financial assistance, the government has said it would set up 100 quality testing laboratories across the country.
Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Subodh Kant Sahai said financial assistance would be given to achieve higher quality processed food products like biscuits, a release issued by Indian Biscuits Manufacturers' Association (IBMA) said.
Inaugurating a seminar on food laws, Sahai lauded the role of processing industries particularly those in the small and medium scale sector, the release said.
IBMA President B P Agarwal said the objective of organising the one day seminar was to give an opportunity to various segments of the sector to deliberate on different issues affecting the industry because of recent amendments in Prevention of Food Adulteration Rules and Packaged Commodities Rules.
