Tea Board to set up cell for small growers

The Tea Board will soon set up a separate cell to look into problems faced by small tea growers (STGs) in the country.

NEW DELHI: The Tea Board will soon set up a separate cell to look into problems faced by small tea growers (STGs) in the country.

"We are going to set up a separate wing or cell for the STGs, where dedicated people will address the issues of the small growers," Tea Board Chairman Basudeb Banerjee said.

Commenting on the problems of the small growers, Banerjee said the tea quality is poor in the southern states due to lack of basic infrastructure.

The existence of a number of unregistered associations of STGs is another reason that small growers are not able to avail the benefits of government schemes, he pointed.

"There are so many STG associations and they are not registered. This is the reason they are unable to avail the advantages of different schemes," he said, adding that their labour force is also not satisfied.
