Reckitt Benckiser moves Delhi High Court for revising price of Dettol

Multinational consumer goods firm Reckitt Benckiser has moved the Delhi High Court seeking directions to the Centre to revise the price of Dettol.

NEW DELHI: Multinational consumer goods firm Reckitt Benckiser has moved the Delhi High Court seeking directions to the Centre to revise the price of the company's liquid antiseptic-cum-disinfectant, Dettol.

Reckitt Benckiser (India) Ltd has contended that despite an order from the Reviewing Authority, under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, to revise prices of Dettol, the Centre till date has taken no action.

Justice Manmohan is likely to hear the matter on May 8. Questioning the government's delay in implementing the August 1, 2013 order of its own authority, Reckitt Benckiser has sought directions to the National Pharmaceuticals Pricing Authority and the ministry to revise the prices of Dettol which were fixed in March 2011.

Another grievance of Reckitt Benckiser is that no price has been fixed for the different pack sizes of 60 ml, 110 ml and 210 ml produced by it.The reviewing authority in its August 2013 order had held that the claim of the company, regarding fixing of prices of the different packs, is justified and Reckitt Benckiser should have been provided the cost of the pack sizes produced by it. The order had come on a representation filed by Reckitt Benckiser against the government's price fixation order of 2011.
