KOLKATA: Cigarette to FMCG major ITC Ltd on Friday said that it was planning to make investments in the agri business in West Bengal.
The company is working with the state government for land for the projects, ITC chairman Y C Deveshwar told reporters on the sidelines of the CII national committee meeting.
The proposed projects would include a food park and a logistics hub, he said.
Deveshwar did not give any further details.
Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said that ITC had agreed to setup a 'Centre for Marketing of Vegetables'.
"We have huge potential in horticulture, but due to lack of market mechanism 10 to 30 per cent of vegetables perish, and I have invited private investment in the sector," Bhattacharjee said.
The ITC chairman had earlier stated that his company would make Rs 1,000 crore investment in West Bengal in agri, hotel and cigarette business.
