Godrej Consumer Products wins case against a cybersquatter

NEW DELHI: Godrej Consumer Products has won a case against a cybersquatter who had registered the domain name of its flagship group, law firm ANM Global, which represented the Indian consumer goods maker, said.

“Godrej proved that the domain name registered by US-based cybersquatter Chris Peri of Illinois was identical to its trademark and misleading,” the statement said.

Nidhish Mehrotra, co-founding partner, ANM Global, said: “Allowing the domain name registration would have been harmful to Godrej and could have had serious consequences.”

According to the statement, a World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) panel noted that the US-based ‘respondent had registered the domain name with the intent to capitalise on the Godrej trademark’.
