Gillette India to stop distributing Duracell batteries from December
Gillette India will stop selling Duracell batteries from December after parent company Procter & Gamble divested the brand globally.
"As a result of such divestiture, Procter & Gamble International Operations SA has decided to terminate the distributor arrangement entered into with the company," Gillette India said in a statement.
Analysts don’t expect a huge impact on Gillette’s sales as the portable power division accounts for a small portion of its Rs 1,800 crore business. P&G, which globally bought Gillette a decade ago, gets the bulk of its revenue from sales of blades, razors and oral care products in India.
A year ago, Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway agreed to buy the Duracell battery business from P&G, which shed about 100 brands to focus on products that generate 90 per cent of its $83 billion of sales.
