DRI imposes penalty on export unit

A penalty of Rs 2.50 crore was charged from a Jalandhar-based leather export house for misusing the export incentive facilities, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials said here on Thursday.

LUDHIANA: A penalty of Rs 2.50 crore was charged from a Jalandhar-based leather export house for misusing the export incentive facilities, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials said here on Thursday.

In a raid conducted recently under the supervision of DRI senior intelligence officer A K Sharma, the penalty was recovered on the spot by the raiding party.

DRI Joint Director Dhiraj Rastogi said the firm situated on the Kapurthala road, Jalandhar, used to export raw hide of animals instead of declared finished leather goods to various countries including China and Singapore.

The owners of the firm, Rastogi said, confessed of carrying on the illegal export for the last three years. The transactions, he added, were to the tune of Rs 25 crore.
