The decision follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Tamil Nadu Government to establish the plant in the SIPCOT Food Park in Tindivanam, Villupuram district.
The investment will commence with an initial phase of Rs 135 crore and is projected to reach Rs 400 crore over the next five years.
The project aims to provide direct employment to around 250 individuals and create thousands of indirect job opportunities in the region. This development is expected to have a substantial positive impact on the local economy, especially benefiting farmers from the nearby Delta region.
Moreover, this move is aimed at serving the increasing demand in the southern market more effectively.
The company's shares were trading at Rs 643.65, up 1.47 per cent as of 12.54 pm.
Tamil Nadu's Industry Minister, TRB Rajaa, shared the news on the social media platform 'X,' expressing his excitement about the new development and welcoming Dabur to both Tamil Nadu and South India.
The minister's statement read, "Welcome to Tamil Nadu, @DaburIndia! In fact, welcome to South India! In the presence of Honourable @CMOTamilNadu Thiru. @MKStalin avargal, @Guidance_TN today signed an MoU with Dabur for the establishment of a world-class manufacturing plant, their FIRST EVER in South India, at the SIPCOT Food Park in #Tindivanam, Villupuram district."
Highlighting the opportunities for the local agricultural sector, Minister TRB Rajaa stated, "Dabur will invest Rs 400 crore in this facility which will create 250 plus jobs. More importantly, it will open up new opportunities for farmers in the nearby Delta region to sell agro-produce to be processed in this facility."
Dabur India's Chief Executive Officer, Mohit Malhotra, expressed gratitude towards the government and local authorities for their support.
The new manufacturing facility is designed to be one of Dabur's most modern and environmentally friendly plants, with the capacity to produce a vast array of the company's products.
