UAE firm to enter Indian duty free market
UAE jewellery group Damas has tied up with the UAE based duty free trading company, Flemingo International, to offer its portfolio of jewellery and luxury-watch brands at international airports in Jaipur, Trivandrum and Chennai.
Tawhid Abdullah, managing director, Damas, says the company sees sees "great potential in the Indian duty free market.
"With the increase in the number of budget airlines and privatisation of airports, the country is witnessing a rise in air passenger traffic and duty free shops are doing brisk business."
Headquartered in Jebel Ali Free Zone, Flemingo is the first private player in the Indian duty free market to have set up operations in the country in 2003.
The company operates 25 shops at the international arrival and departure terminals across 12 international airports in India. An additional 12 retail duty free shops at 6 Indian international airports shall be operational by January 2007.
