Kimaya ties up with Max Mara for India launch
As the fad for designer labels catches up in the country, leading fashion house Kimaya Stores is planning a retail expansion with about 40 outlets in three years.
Besides the outlet expansion in India, the Pradeep Hirani-promoted store is also eyeing the Western and Middle-East markets. In 2009, the designer label store plans to list in the bourses.
"In next three years the fashion house is planning to open 40 new stores in India. We would also open stores in London, Canada and Kuwait," Kimaya Chairman Pradeep Hirani told media.
Kimaya currently has three stores in India and one in Dubai and a domestic designer pret store called Ayamik.
On investments for the expansion, he declined to give an exact figure, but said it could be upto Rs 30,000 - 35,000 per square feet for a 5000 square feet for a store.
About listing in stock markets in 2009, Hirani declined to disclose details of amount the company planned to raise from the bourses. He also said the company is planning to introduce more global designer labels in India.
"Already we have tied up with Italian luxury brand Max Mara (The House of Max Mara), an upscale, luxury Italian women's fashion house and the collections would be available in India from this month," he said, adding it would be introducing the brand under the label Max Mara by Kimaya.
Recently, it acquired a majority stake in designer Pam Mehta's label that specialises in trousseau and bridal wear and is planning to open stand-alone stores for the designer.
