Jewellers to strike indefinitely in Pune from June 7 onward
Pune Jewellers have announced to observe an indefinite strike from June 7 onward to protest against the decision of the Pune Municipal Corporation to increase the octroi on gold from 0.35% to 3% from April 1st onward.
The Pune Saraf Association has informed through a press release. "The hike in octroi is coercive. The octroi adds to the gold and silver prices by Rs 660/10 grams and Rs 600/kg respectively," said Pune Saraf Association president FN Ranka. The Association has claimed that the hike in octroi has affected sales at all the jewellery shops.
