Japanese agency to help MP handicraft sector
Japan External Trade Organisation has expressed its willingness to market handicraft products of Madhya Pradesh, a senior minister from the state said on Monday.
"The Japanese agency is willing to extend all possible help in marketing the handicraft products of the state so that they can find a market in Japan," said Madhya Pradesh Minister for Industry and Commerce Babulal Gaur, who attended the East Asia Economic Summit in Tokyo last week.
The Japanese assistance can ensure a business of Rs 10-15 crore annually to 5,000 tribal population, who produce very high quality handicraft items in an unorganised way, he said.
MP Laghu Udyog Corporation and the Japanese agency will work together to evolve a strategy to tap potential of the SSI sector of the state, the minister said.
He also noted that the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation had agreed to extend a loan of Rs 563 crore towards an irrigation project on river Pench in Chindwara district of the state.
