FDCI to organise SAARC fashion show
Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) said it will organise a SAARC fashion show, coinciding with the 29th South Asian bloc's Council of Ministers meeting to be held here next month.
The Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations have commissioned FDCI to organise the fashion event - 'Threads of Unity' here on December 7. The event would showcase creations by 14 designers from eight nations, FDCI said in a release.
The Council meeting would be attended by the SAARC foreign ministers.
As the current Chair of SAARC, India is committed to improving people-to-people contact in the region. The fashion show is an important component of the SAARC Cultural Festival to be held for the first time in India, it said.
"The SAARC fashion show aims to generate awareness about the rich cultural heritage through textile traditions and indigenous handicraft and embroideries techniques of the SAARC nations," FDCI Director General Rathi Vinay Jha said.
Designers representing India are Ritu Kumar and Anamika Khanna.
