Covid-19 impact: Bharat Diamond Bourse asks offices to halve attendance

Mumbai: The Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB), the country’s diamond trading hub, has instructed its members to function with only 50% staff as is vogue in other private companies to prevent the spread of Covid 19 .

The Bourse has also instructed the Mumbai Diamond Association to reduce the number of people on its trading floor to 200 from 600 , Anoop Mehta , BDB’s president told ET .

The food courts in the sprawling complex housing 4000 offices have already been shut .


The Covid 19 fallout has sharply reduced polished diamond exports , with one after another country locking down to contain the pandemic’s spread . India’s Exports of cut and polished diamonds in February 2020 posted a 40.92% year in year decline to $1.38 bn . The April -February 2020 figure declined 19.38% at $17.69 bn from a year ago .
